Beidh 27 ball de chumann rothaíochta na Ceathrún Gaeltachta, Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao, ag déanamh rothaíocht 100 míle ó Choláiste Feirste sa Cheathrú Ghaeltachta go dtí Gaeltacht Ráth Chairn, i gContae na Mí, Dé Sathairn 23 Lúnasa. Déanfar an rothaíocht iomlán ar an aon lá amháin agus bronnfar an t-airgead a bhaileofar ar fheachtas ‘Tuistí an Tuaiscirt – Feachtas Bus’ le tacú le tuismitheoirí a chaitheann suas le £50 in aghaidh na míosa lena bpáistí a chur chuig meánscoil lán-Ghaeilge. Roghnaíodh Ráth Chairn mar gheall ar a thábhacht stairiúil i bhfeachtasaíocht ar son cearta teanga Gaeilge.

Bhunaigh rialtas Fhianna Fáil De Valera mar choilíneacht Gaeltachta í sa bhliain 1934, ar thalamh mhéith i gContae na Mí. Bhí siad faoi bhrú ón ghrúpa feachtasaíochta ‘Muintir na Gaeltachta’ agus Máirtín Ó Cadháin, ó cheantair bhochta Chonamara, mar cheannaire orthu. Rothaigh an grúpa ó Ros Muc i gConamara go Teach Laighean i 1934 le brú a chur ar rialtas an tSaorstáit an cearta daonna agus an dínit seo a bhronnadh. D’eagraigh siad rothaíocht ceiliúrtha i 1954 ó Chonamara go Ráth Chairn le 20 bliain den Ghaeltacht a cheiliúradh.

Dúirt ball ó Chumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao, Seán Ó hEacháin, go bhfuil se “tráthúil agus fóirsteanach go ndéanfaidh Gaeil Bhéal Feirste an rothaíocht go Ráth Chairn 60 bliain níos moille ar son fheachtas cearta daonna eile do phobal na Gaeilge. Beidh Comharchumann Ráth Chairn ag cur lóistín ar fáil do na rothaithe agus beidh oíche shóisialta sa teach tabhairne agus ionad pobail, An Bradán Feasa.”

“Tá muid ag iarraidh airgead a bhailiú le tacú le cearta daonna na nGael agus na brú airgid a mhaolú do thuismitheoirí a roghnaíonn an Gaeloideachas dá bpáistí. Tá muid fíorbhuíoch do na grúpaí pobail a thug tacaíocht fhlaithiúil do Chumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao. Ba mhaith linn buíochas ó chroí a ghabháil le Glór na Móna, Forbairt Feirste, TACA, Féile an Phobail, Fáilte Feirste Thiar, Goodfellas, An Chultúrlann, Misneach, agus Cumann Chluain Árd agus tá a suaitheantais le feiceáil ar ár léine rothaíochta O’Neills.

“Más suim le duine ar bith urraíocht a thabhairt do na rothaithe nó don fheachtas Tuistí an Tuaiscirt, is féidir teagmháil a dhéanamh linn trí ríomhphost a sheoladh chuig rothaiocht@hotmail.com

This Saturday, 23 August, Gaeltacht Quarter cycling club, Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao will be hosting  27 cyclists  on a 100 mile trek from Coláiste Feirste in an An Cheathrú Ghaeltachta to the Meath Gaeltacht in Rath Chairn. This 100 mile trek will be carried out in one day and monies raised will go to the Tuistí an Tuaiscirt campaign to support parents who are out of pocket up to £50 a month in order to access Irish medium post-primary education for their children.  Rath Chairn was chosen because of its historic significance in Irish language rights campaigning.

It was founded as a Gaeltacht colony on fertile land in Meath by the De Valera Fianna Fáil Government in 1934 under pressure from the Muintir na Gaeltachta activist group led by Máirtín Ó Cadhain from the impoverished regions in Conamara. The group cycled from Ros Muc in Conamara to Leinster House in 1934 to pressurise the Free State government for this human rights and dignity. In 1954, they organised a 20th anniversary cycle from Conamara to Rath Chairn to celebrate 20 years in existence of the Gaeltacht Colony. According to Cumann Rothaíochta  Loch Lao member Seán Ó hEachain ‘Its fitting that Belfast Gaels will now be cycling to Rath Chairn exactly 60 years later in support of another human rights campaign for the Irish speaking community. Comharchumann Rath Chairn will be hosting the cyclists that evening for a celebration of music and song in an Bradan Feasa bar and commmunity centre.

Seán continued, ‘We’ re aiming to raise money to support  the human rights of the Irish language community and to help alleviate the financial pressure on parents who choose Irish medium education for their children. We’re very grateful to all the community organisations who kindly supported us with a donation in support of Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao. We would like to thank Glór na Móna, Forbairt Feirste, TACA, Féile an Phobail, Fáilte Feirste Thiar, Goodfellas, An Chultúrlann, Misneach, Cumann Chluain Ard whose logos are all visible on our especially made O’Neills cycling jersey.
