Bhí lá mór ceol, craic agus ceiliúradh ann i gCultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich Lá Fhéíle Bhríde nuair a rinne an Gael aitheanta Micheál Ó Máirtín, seoladh ar ‘An Griangraf Gafa’, leabhar spreagúil ón údar Jim Herron.

Bhí ceol den scoth ann fosta ag an imeacht, agus an cruitire Nodlaig Brolly ag líonadh Dánlann Dillon le ceol binn an chlairsigh.

Is é Padráig Ó Maolcraoibhe a bhí ina fhear a’ tí agus chuir sé fáílte roimhe an teach lán a nocht ar an lá.

Is tionscnamh de chuid Fhorbairt Feirste é An Griangraf Gafa, a bhfuair tacaíocht ón Roinn Cultúr Ealíon agus Fóillíochta, agus is é atá déanta ag an údar Jim Herron sa leabhar iontach seo ná griangrafanna agus seanfhocail a cheangal le chéile sa dóigh is go bhféadfadh an léitheoir tairbhe a bhaint chan amháin as téacs an ghriangraif ach as seanfhocal cuí chomh maith.

Caitheann an tionscnamh seo solas ar an draíocht ar leith atá ag baint le comarthaí Gaeilge agus na seanfocail atá ceangailte leo, agus taispeánann sé go poiblí go bhfuil an teanga seo, a bhfuil muid uilig ag iarraidh a chur chun cinn, go bhfuil sí beo beathach.  In ainneoin an tsaoil.

Tá an leabhar ar díol i siopa An Cheathrú Póilí sa Chultúrlann

There was a great afternoon of music, craic and celebration at Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich on St Brigid’s Day when veteran Gael Micheál Ó Máirtín, launched ‘Pictures and Proverbs’, an inspirational book from the author Jim Herron.

There was also music of the highest quality with harpist Nodlag Brolly filling the Dillon Gallery with the strains of the harp.

The event  was chaired by MC Pat Rice, who welcomed a full house to the launch.

An Griangraf Gafa is a Forbairt Feirste project, which received generous backing from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and in which author Jim Herron, through his wonderful book, brings Irish language signs and Irish proverbs together in a way which allows the reader to get benefit not only from the image and its associated text but also from the appropriate proverbs to which he links them.

This project illustrates that Irish language signs and the proverbs associated with them in this work have something magical about them, that these signs are asserting publicly that the language we are all trying to preserve and promote is alive and kicking.  In spite of everything.

The book is on sale at the Cultúrlann Bookshop
