Bhí an léacht ar théama logainmneacha agus oidhreachta á ndéanamh ag Jake mar chuid de Thionscadal Nansen, scéim leanúnach de chuid Forbairt Feirste.
Rinneadh an cur i láthair i ‘Springhill Primary School’ i mBaile Uí Mháirtín faoi scáth na Dubhaise agus bhí roinnt scoláirí ó rang a sé agus rang a seacht ón scoil féin, i láthair mar aon le trí mhúinteoir faoi stiúir an Uas. Derek Whitcroft.
Ag labhairt dó tar éis na cainte, dúirt Mac Siacais:
” Is iontach an méid suime agus a bhíos i gcónaí ag daoine óga agus fosta ag daoine fásta i gcúrsaí oidhreachta áitiúla. Bhí am ar dóigh agam leis na páistí galánta, múinte, fiosracha seo ar chúis bróid dá scoil agus dá phobal iad agus a chur beocht leis an chaint i séisiúin na gceisteanna. Ba mhaith liom buíochas mór a ghabháil le húdaráis na scoile as ucht an chuireadh bheith i láthair agus ach go speisíalta le Derek Whitcroft a rinne stiúir, éifeachtach ar an chur i láthair agus leis na daltaí ár réalta an uile dhuine acu.”
Forbairt Feirste Director delivers talks on placenames
Forbairt Feirste director, Jake Mac Siacais, gave a presentation on the theme of heritage and placenames of the Civil Parish of Shankill yesterday 9/6/10. The talk was held in Springhill Primary School in Ballygomartin as part of the Creative Legacies scheme in partnership with theUpper Springfield Development Trust.
The talk was conducted by Jake on the theme of placenames and heritage and formed part of Forbairt Feirste’s ongoing scheme, The Nansen Project.
The talk took place in Springhill Primary School in the shadow of Divis and Black Mountain and some of the school’s primary six and seven classes attended, along with three teachers under the guidance of teacher Mr Derek Whitcroft.
Speaking after the event Mac Siacais said:
” The level of interest from young and indeed not so young people in local heritage is always amazing. I had a wonderful time with these lovely, well-mannered, inquisitive pupils, who are a credit to their school and their community and who enlivened the event especially at the questuion and answer section. I would like to thank the school authorities for inviting me in and I would especially like to thank Derek Whitcroft who did an excellent job in facilitating the event. I would also like to the children who were stars, each and everyone of them.”
