‘Cuirígí aithne níos fearr ar an Ard Mháistir an tOir Richard Rutledge Kane, Bobby Sands agus go leor leor eile’. Sin é an cuireadh a bhí ann an Déardaoin seo caite (Meitheamh 4ú) nuair a cuireadh tús oifigiúil le turais treoraithe ar Slí na Gaeltachta, Conair Oidhreachta agus Cultúrtha na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta.

Lean an turas na plaiceanna eibheara atá in airde ó Shráid an Chaisleáin go Reilig na Cathrach i gcroílár na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta ag ceiliúradh gnéithe éagsúla d’oidhreacht agus cultúr agus daoine aithnidiúla stairiúla a raibh baint acu le Gaeltacht Feirste. Cuireadh na plaiceanna in aired a bhuíochas de mhaoiniú flaithiúl a fuarthas ó Chiste infheistíochta Áitiuil de chuid Chomhairle Bhéal Feirste in 2014, de bharr comhiarratais ó Forbairt Feirste, Fáilte Feirste Thiar agus Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich.

Lainseáil oifigiúl a bhí ann fosta ar an sochfhiontar, CAMCHUAIRT,  a bhunaigh Forbairt Feirste le tacaíocht ón Áisíneacht Fiontraíochta Workwest, chun turais treoraithe a chur ar fáil, i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla, ar Shlí na Gaeltachta.

Ag labhairt do ar Chamchuairt agus Slí na Gaeltachta, agus ag tabhairt buíochas do na maoinitheoirí agus eascaitheoirí, dúirt urlabhraí an sochfhiontar, Conchur Ó Muadaigh:

“Tá lúchair orainn an sochfhiontar úr s’againn, Camchuairt a sheoladh inniú agus turais treoraithe a sholathair do phobal s’againn féin agus turasóirí araon. Tá sé de sprioc againn stair luachmhar Gaelphobal Feirste a insint, a cheiliúradh agus a roinnt leo siúd ar suim leo níos mó eolais a fháil ar oidhreacht shaibhir s’againn.

“Beidh muid ag tairiscint na turais treoraithe seo achan lá i rith Féile an Phobail 2015 agus ag cur Céad Míle fáilte roimh scoileanna, ollscoileanna, grúpaí, turasóirí agus daoine aonair. Tá sé aidhm againn tógáil ar an seirbhís seo sna bliantaí amach romhainn chun scéal Gaelphobal Feirste a insint agus chun fostaíocht a chruthú do Ghaeilgeoirí óga na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta.

“Chuige seo, beidh muid ag solathár traenáil do threoraithe sna seachtainí amach romhain. Tá spasanna fágtha go fóill do Gaeilgeoirí ar bith ar mhian leo an traenáil seo a dhéanamh go háirithe Gaeil óga.

Guided tours of the Belfast Gaeltacht cultural and heritage trail Slí na Gaeltachta were officially launched last week June 4th with an invitation to ‘get to know more about Belfast Orange Grand Master the Rev Richard Rutledge Kane, Bobby Sands and much, much more’.

The tour follows the trail of granite plaques which have been erected from Castle Street to the gates of City Cemetery in the heart of the Gaeltacht Quarter and which celebrate various aspects of Gaelic culture and heritage as well as significant figures associated with the area and its rich and varied heritage. The plaques were made possible with generous assistance from Belfast City Council’s local investment fund on foot of a joint application from Forbairt Feirste, Fáilte Feirste Thiar and Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich.

The first tour also marked the official launch of the social enterprise, CAMCHUAIRT,  founded by Forbairt Feirste with generous support from Workwest Enterprise Agency, to provide guided bilingual tours including those within the Gaeltacht Quarter.

Forbairt Feirste’s, Jake Mac Siacais, led the first tour when he joined Irish Language learners from Ionad Uibh Eachach on the new and innovative Camchuairt Tour. Dr Ian Malcolm, Raidió Fáilte, was there also to record the event.

Speaking about Chamchuairt and Slí na Gaeltachta, and thanking both the funders and facilitators of this exciting social enterprise spokesperson Conchur Ó Muadaigh said:

“We are delighted today to launch our new social enterprise Camchuairt and to offer guided tours of the Belfast Gaeltacht to local people and tourists alike. It is our aim to tell the rich and many layered story of Belfast’s Irish speaking community to all those with an interest in our rich and shared heritage.

“Camchuairt will offer guided tours every day during Féile an Phobail 2015 and are extending an invitation to schools, universities, groups, tourists and individuals to an authentic Gaeltacht experience and a hearty Céad Míle Fáilte. We also aim to build on this service in the months and years ahead to both showcase the Belfast Gaeltacht story whilst providing employment for young Irish speakers.

“To that end we will be providing bespoke training in the weeks ahead. Training spaces are limited but we will be delighted to hear from anyone interested in availing of this opportunity particularly young Irish speakers.
