Dhá bhliain ó shin bhailigh breis agus 200 duine i gColáiste Feirste do Chomhdháil na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta. Ag an chomhdháil sin lainseáladh Mórphlean na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta a chuireadh le chéile ag Clive Dutton, nach maireann.

Rinne trí Aire rialtas, Carál Ní Chuilín, Mark H Durkan agus John O Dowd Cáirt na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta a chomhshíniú le Gaeil Óga ag tabhairt comhghealltanas chun oibriú le chéíle leis an Cheathrú a fhorbairt chun leasa an Phobail

Ar an Cheádaoin seo, 23ú Mean Fómhair tiocfaidh na páirtithe leasmhara le chéile chun amharc ar an dul chun cinn agus chun díriú ar na blainta romhainn.

Ag labhairt do roimhe an Chomhdhála dúirt Cathaoirleach na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta, Ciarán Magoill:

“Baineann tionscadal na Ceathrún Gaeltachta le comhoibriú. Cothaíonn sé seo na príomhcheisteanna agus an chomhthuiscint atá riachtanach maidir le seoladh réiteach athnuachana rathúil agus dinimiciúil. Cothaíonn sé an mhuinín ionainn, laistigh den phobal agus inár bpáirtnéirí sa Rialtas le bheith samhlaíoch agus nuálach.

“Mar bhord, tá tuiscint iomlán againn ar na teannais agus ar na deiseanna is féidir bheith ann idir daonlathas ionadaíoch, mar atá sonraithe i rialtas lárnach agus áitiúil agus sna leaganacha eile de rialachas. Is é an taithí atá againn go spreagann na samhlacha nua soláthair, cosúil leis an Cheathrú Ghaeltachta, muinín de bhrí go bhfeictear orthu mar fhreagairtí do riachtanais mhóra. Ní fheictear orthu amháin mar na chéad chéimeanna i treo ceisteanna a fhreagairt ach mar an freagra é féin. Soláthraíonn siad struchúir dhóchasacha na freagrachta a chuireann bunchiall na saoránachta gníomhaí in iúl.

“Cuireann sé seo béim ar an ghá leis an Cheathrú Ghaeltachta bheith mar fhórsa tionscantach, a spreagann cumarsáid idir na hinstitiúidí tábhachtacha agus a bpáirtithe leasmhara. Ní bhaineann an deis sa Cheathrú Ghaeltachta le fócas tiomantais ar an Ghaeilge, cé go bhfuil sé seo tábhachtach, ach baineann sé le timpeallacht a chruthú inar féidir le daoine ar gach leibhéal bheith i mbun a ndul chun cinn féin mar dhaoine aonair. Spreagfaidh sé seo daoine nuálacht a léiriú, ar na leibhéil is bunúsaí fiú, agus cruthóidh sé an scóip do phaisean. Is teachtaireacht chumhachtach í seo le cur in iúl. Is í teachtaireacht na Ceathrún Gaeltachta í.”

Two years ago over 200 people gathered in Coláiste Feirste for the Gaeltacht Quarter Conference. At that conference the Big Gaeltacht Quarter Plan devised by Clive Dutton, RIP, was launched.

Three government ministers, Carál Ní Chuilín, Mark H Durkan agus John O Dowd jointly signed the Gaeltacht Quarter Charter along with young Irish speakers promising together to work for the development of the Gaeltacht Quarter for the benefit of the community.

This Wednesday, 23rd September the stakeholders will reconvene to assess what progress has been made and to plan for the time ahead.

Speaking ahead of the conference Gaeltacht Quarter Chair, Ciarán Magoill said:

“The Gaeltacht Quarter is about collaboration. This provides the key issues and common ground necessary for the launch of successful and dynamic regeneration solutions. It also provides us, within the community and our partners in Government with the confidence to be imaginative and innovative.

“As a board we fully understand the tensions and opportunities that can lie between representative democracy as characterised by central and local government and alternative forms of governance. Our experience is that new models of delivery such as the Gaeltacht Quarter inspire confidence because they are seen as responses to profound needs. They are not just seen as the first moves towards answering questions but as the answer. They provide reassuring structures of accountability that give substance to the meaning of active citizenship.

“This spotlights the need for the Gaeltacht Quarter to be seen as a catalysing force, enabling dialogue between important institutions and their related stakeholders. The opportunity in the Gaeltacht Quarter does not lie in a single minded focus on the Irish language, as important as that might be, but rather creating an environment where people at all levels can take ownership of their own progress as individuals. Enabling people to show initiative, even at the most basic levels, creates the scope for passion. That is a powerful message to communicate. It is a Gaeltacht Quarter message.
