Corn Uí Cheallaigh 2012 i Lámha Dhearga

Tá Corn Olibhear Ó Cheallaigh, i Lámha Dhearga inniú tar éis é a bheith bainte don chéad uair ag foireann sinsear Lámh Dhearg ag deireadh na Seachtaine.


B’é seo an triú bhliain as a chéíle a reachtáil Laochra Loch Lao CLG, Comórtas Olibhear Ó Cheallaigh agus an céad uair nar bhain na h-óstóirí an Comórtas.


Tosaíodh an comórtas i 2010 in ómós d’Olibhear Ó Cheallaigh, Gael, poblachtanach, dlíodóir aitheanta agus iar-Chathaoirleach ar Choiste Chondae Aontroma CLG a fuair bás i 2009 agus a raibh beirt mhac leis ag imirt le Laochra Loch Lao ag an am.


Imríodh comórtas 2012 i gCumann Lámh Dhearg ag Baile Haine Dé Sathairn an 13ú Deireadh Fómhair mar chuid d’Fhéile na Carriage agus seacht foirne ag glacadh páirte ann mar a bhí foireann sinsear agus foireann faoi 21 Lámh Dhearg; Laochra Loch Lao; Naomh Úna, Watty Graham’s, Gort na Móna agus Piarsaigh Bhéal Feirste.


Tharla an dá fhoireann Lámh Dhearg sa chluiche cheannais i ndiaidh dóibh teacht fríd an dá thaobh den chomórtas agus bhí cluiche dúshlannach, fearúil ann a chuir gliondar ar gcroíthe an lucht féachána a bhí ag fulaingt na fuachta fhad agus a bhí rudaí ag téadh suas ar pháirc an imeartha.


Chríochnaigh an cluiche ar chomhscór ag lán ama 2.10 in éadan 3.7 don fhoireann sinsear agus b’éigean don réitóir, Mick French, na foirne a thabhairt chun ciceanna pionóis leis an choimhlint a réiteach. Thainiig an foireann sinsear slán fríd na ciceanna a bhuíochás le cúl báire agus captaen na foirne John Finucane.


Lá spórtúil bríomhar a bhí ann agus ceiliúradh ceart eile ar shaol agus oidhreacht Olibhear Ó Ceallaigh, a raibh a mac Cathal ag imirt do na buaiteoirí.


Le cúrsaí spóirt réitithe don lá d’imigh a raibh i láthair isteach chuig Clubtheach Lámh Dhearg, áit a raibh bia agus doech dóibh siúd a raibh an fonn orthú agus ceol ‘s craic a bhuíochas le Sean agus Róise MacCorraidh.

Red Hands Lift 2012 Kelly Cup

The Oliver Kelly Cup is in Red Hands today following  a first Lámh Dhearg senior victory in the competition which was played at the weekend.


This was the third successive year of the Kelly Cup which is hosted by Laochra Loch Lao CLG and it was to be the hosts’ first defeat in the competition.


Corn Uí Cheallaigh  was inaugurated in 2010 in honour of Oliver Kelly, a Belfast Gael, Republican, renowned solicitor and former Chairperson of the GAA Antrim County Board who died in 2009 and who had two sons playing at that time for Laochra Loch Lao.


The competition was staged at Lámh Dhearg’s Hannahstown pitch on Saturday October 13th as part of Féile na Carraige, seven teams contested the cup Lámh Dhearg seniors and Under 21s; Laochra Loch Lao; Naomh Úna, Watty Graham’s, Gort na Móna agus Piarsaigh Bhéal Feirste.


The two Lámh Dhearg teams ended up facing each other in the final having successfully come through both ends of the competition and they provided an entertaining challenging and manly exhibition which delighted the spectators who suffered the biting cold as things warmed up on the field of play.


The final ended drawn on a scoreline of 2.10 for the seniors against  3.7 for the under 21s and it was left to Refereee Mick French to invite the teams to separate themselves by way of penalties. The seniors emerged victorious thanks to a number of wonderful saves by keeper and captain John Finucane.


It was  a lively sporting day of acitivities and another fitting tribute to Oliver Kelly whose son Cathal lined out for the winning team.


With the sporting endeavours concluded it was into teh Lámh Dhearg clubhouse for some very welcome and delicious food and liquid refreshment for those so inclined to the accompaniment of ceol and criac courtesy of Sean and Róise MacCorraidh.
