Chuaigh Corn Sóisir Chomórtas Peile na Gaeltachta ar ais chuig Íochtar na Rosann don dara huair riamh i ndiaidh gur éirigh le Naomh Muire bua cúilín a fháil ar Laochra Loch Lao Bhéal Feirste sa chluiche ceannais Dé Luain(6/6/11).

Bhuaigh fir Aontroma go héasca sa dá chluiche a bhí acu go dtí sin sa chomórtas. Bhuail siad an Seánphobail as Port Láirge maidin shatharn le 4-18 ar an bhord acu agus bhris na laochra cur-iarracht scórala an chomórtais de Domhnaigh nuair a ghread siad Móin Dearg as Londain le 10-15 ar an bhord acu in aghaidh 1-4. Ullmhúchán furasta i bhí ann i gcompáraid le Naomh Muire a bhain in am bréise in aghaidh An Fhairche as Gaillimh de domhnaigh le cuilín amháin!

Thosaigh Naomh Muire ní ba láidre ach is Na Laochra a bhí chun tosaigh ar an bhord bhí  sa chéad 20 bomaite, le réalta na foirne, Pádraig Ó Cunnigeáin, ag aimsiú ceithre chúilín le cuidiú na gaoithe.

Choinnigh Ciaran McGinley agus Harry Harden imreoirí Thír Chonaill san iomaíocht áfach agus léirigh an fear ionaid Darragh de Faoite cumas ar leith chun buaiteoirí 2007 a chur chun tosaigh 0-7 i gcoinne 0-5.

Ní raibh an chéad tréimhse gan chonspóid mar gur léirigh ceamaraí TG4 gur tugadh cúpla buille san aghaidh do phríomhscórálaí na Laochra, Cunningham, rud a d’fhág go raibh air an pháirc a fhágáil de bharr go raibh sé ag cur fola.

Tugadh le fios i ndiaidh an chluiche gur chaill Cunningham dhá fhiacail san eachtra agus go raibh ceithre ghreim de dhíth ar an ghortú chomh maith.

Dhealraigh sé nach bhfaca an réiteoir Paddy Mac Giolla Bhríde cad a tharla áfach agus, ar atosú na himeartha, chinntigh scóranna deasa ó Dheaglán Mac Giolla Earnáin agus Deaglán Ó Loingsigh go rachadh na foirne isteach ag leatham ar chomhscór, 0-7 an taobh.

Bhí an choimhlint idir dhá cheann na meá mar sin ag tús an dara leath ach níorbh fhada gur oscail Laochra Loch Lao bearna idir na foirne le cúilíní breatha ón Cunningánach, Brendán Ó Brolcháin agus Seán Mac Cathail. Tharraing Naomh Muire cuilín ar ais sula phleasc na Laochra óna suan arís le cuilín míolteach ón toabhlíne le Paddy Cunningham  agus cuilíní gleoite eile  ó Phádraig óg Mac Giolla Bhríde agus Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh ag cur farasbarr cúig chuílín idir na foirne

Agus ocht mbomaite fágtha ar an chlóg bhí foireann Bhéal Feirste cúig chúilín chun cinn, 0-13 in éadan 0-8, agus an chuma ar an scéal go mbeadh Corn na Sóisear ag dul go Béal Feirste den chéad uair riamh.

Lean Naomh Muire leo áfach, an lámh in uachtar á fáil acu de réir a chéile i lár na páirce, agus le scóranna eile ó McGinley agus Owen Grant, ní raibh ach cúilín idir an dá fhoireann ag dul i dtreo dheireadh an chluiche.

Sa deireadh ba é Shaun Boyle laoch mór na Rosann, é ag cur na liathróide thar an trasnán faoi dhó in am breise chun bua drámatúil a thabhairt do Naomh Muire.

Croíbhriseadh d’fhoireann lán Gaeilge na Ceathrún Gaeltachta ach dar le Cathaoirleach an chumainn, Jake Mac Siacais go bhfuil na Laochra ag pleánáil cheana féin do chomórtas na bliana seo chugainn i nGaoth Dobhair; ‘Tá muid uilig croíbhriste ar ndóigh gur sciobadh craobh na hÉireanna uainn sna bomaití deireanacha ach treasláimid le Naomh Muire a thaipeáin uchtach iontach chun an corn a bhaint. Tá muid uilig brodúil as an iarracht mhór a rinne na leaids chun cluiche ceannais na hÉireann a bhaint amach agus craobh na hÉireann a thabhairt go Béal Feirste.  Lena chois sin, gabhaimid buíochas spéisialta do bhainisteor s’againn Micky Culbert agus don lucht tacaíochta s’againn a thug spreagadh glórmhar dúinn ar feadh na deireadh seachtaine. Seasfaidh an taithí seo linn agus béimid ar ais ní ba láidre do Ghaoth Dobhair 2012′

The Junior All-Ireland title at the National Gaeltacht competition headed for the foot of the Rosann in West Donegal  when Naomh Muire succeeded in getting a last-ditch one point victory over Belfast’s Laochra Loch Lao in the final last Monday (6/6/11)

The Antrim men has two easy victories in their quarter and semi final bouts respectively. They beat Waterford’s Seánphobail on Saturday morning putting a whopping 4-18 on the bord while they broke the competition’s scoring record on Sunday when they hammered Móin Dearg of London with 10-15 against 1-4. This amounted to simple prepartion when compared to Naomh Muire’s passage which included a one-point extra time victory on Sunday evening against the hotly tipped Galway side, An Fhairche.

Naomh Muire made a brighter start to the final but it was the Laochra who were ahead on the score board after the first 2o minutes, with team star Padddy Cunningham, scoring four points with the help of a strong breeze.

Ciarán McGinley and and former Donegal minor Harry Harden kept the Donegal charges in touch while first-half substitute Darragh de Faoite showed great promise with three great scores to put the 2007 winners in front 0-7 to 0-5.

The first quarter, however, wasn’t without controversy as live Tg4 cameras caught the Naomh Muire full-back attacking prime-Laochra scorer Cunningham, who twice had to leave the pitch due to bloody mouth. It has subsequently emerged that Cunningham lost two teeth and needed four stitches in his mouth as a result of the attacks.

It appeared that Paddy Mac Giolla Bhríde had’nt seen what had happened and upon the restart, nice points from Deaglán Mac Giolla Earnáin and Deaglán Ó Loingsigh ensured the the team entered half-time level at 0-7 apiece.

The battle was hanging in the balance at the beginning of the second half but it wasn’t long before Laochra Loch Lao opened a gap between the teams with good scores from Cunningham, Brendán Ó Brolcháin and Seán Mac Cathail. Naomh Muire pegged a score back before a monster score from the sideline from Cunningham and two other lovely points from Pádraig Óg Mac Giolla Bhríde and Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh put five points between the teams at 0-13 to 0-8 as the game entered its final quarter. With eight minutes to go on the clock,  it looked as if the Belfast men would be taking the title back to city for the first time ever.

Naomh Muire perservered, however, and gained a foothold at Midfield with great scores from McGinley and Owen Grant, leaving only two points between the teams with two minutes remaining. In the end,  super subsitute Shaun Boyle was the hero for the Rosann men when he struck two points from play in extra time to snatch a dramatic victory for Naomh Muire.

There was heartbreak for the Irish speaking Gaeltacht quarter club but according to club Chairperson, Jake Mac Siacais, the Laochra are already planning for next year’s competition in Gaoth Dobhair; ‘We’re all obviously heartbroken that an All-Ireland title was snatched from us in extra time but we congratulate Naomh Muire who showed great fighting spirit to win the cup. We’re extremely proud of the massvie effort put in by the lads to reach the All-Ireland final to attempt to bring the cup back to Belfast and Antrim. We’d also like to thank our manager Micky Culbert and supporters who gave us loud and vocal inspiration throughout the weekend. This experience will stand to us and we’ll be back stronger for Gaoth Dobhair 2012.’
