West Belfast MP, Paul Maskey, has facilitated a briefing meeting in the British Houses of Parliament to allow him to be updated on progress in the Gaeltacht Quarter. The meeting was held on July 1st at Westminster and was attended by Forbairt Feirste Director, Jake Mac Siacais and Forbairt Feirste Chair Sean Mitchell.

Under discussion was the progress made since the publication of the Big Gaeltacht Quarter Plan Mórphlean na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta in September last year. Also present at the meeting on an invitation from Paul’s office and Forbairt Feirste was Tony Armstrong CEO of Locality UK, who was in attendance to provide a brief on the work of his organisation and to explore possibilities for mutally beneficial collaborations with Forbairt as we move ahead with the development of the Gaeltacht Quarter.

Speaking after the meeting Sean Mitchell remarked:

“We are very grateful to our MP Paul Maskey for arranging this meeting for us and for the support which he has given to the Gaeltacht Quarter to date and which he will no doubt continue to provide in the time ahead. We are also very grateful to Tony Armstrong, who took time out of a busy schedule to meet with us and to brief us on his organisation’s impressive work and to explore with us how we can cooperate to our mutual benefit into the future.

“We raised with Paul Maskey a range of pertinent issues among them the various capital projects within the Gaeltacht Quarter, particularly those like The Béal na bhFeá multi-sports building which will front the Beechmount Spórtlann development and the Crannóg Housing project for Irish speakers, both of which will provide  a step change in terms of delivering the vision for the Gaeltacht Quarter articulated in the agreed action plan.

“Paul, as MP for the area, confirmed his support for our efforts within the Gaeltacht Quarter and assured us that his office would be raising the issues discussed with the appropriate authorities. We had a wonderful whirlwind two days in London which will inspire us and provide new opportunities going forward.”
