Cuairt Chun Ceathrún / Visiting the Quarter
Forbairt NewsSéidín ó Chathair na Gaoithe/ A Breeze from the Windy City
Cá bhfios cad é a thiocfas isteach leis an ghaoth ach ba dheas an séidín a thug beirt bhan galánta ar cuairt chun na Ceathrún Gaeltachta ar maidin, 1/6/10, mar aíonna de chuid Forbairt Feirste.
Is as Leath Chathail, i gCondae an Dúin do Joyce Gibson, áit a n-oibríonn sí mar Oifigeach Forbartha leis an Chumann Ghaelach áitiúil agus is as Chicago Mheiriceá dá compánach, Annie Magdziarz, bean atá ag stopadh abhus anseo mar chuid den chlár ollscoile na “hAmbasadóirí Óga”.
Chaith an bheirt an mhaidin ag tabhairt cuairte ar fhiontraithe Gaeilge éagsúla agus ag déanamh agallaimh ar chlár Raidió Forbairt Feirste ar an stáisiún áitiúil Gaeilge Raidió Fáilte.
“Bhí sé go hiontach an Ghaeilge a fheiceáil in úsáid ar shráidainmneacha agus ar ghnónna agus í a bheith á labhairt go nádúrtha ag pobal na háite,” a dúirt Annie, dalta ag Ollscoil Naomh Eoin i Chicago, áit a bhfuil sí ag dul do Léann Éireannach.

One never knows what will blow in with the wind but it was a lovely breeze which bore two beautiful women to the Gaeltacht Quarter this morning, 1/6/10, as guests of Forbairt Feirste.
Joyce Gibson is from the Lecale district of South Down, where she works as development officer with the Local Irish Language Society and her companion Chicago native Annie Magdziarz is staying locally as part of the University programme ‘The Young Ambassadors”.
Both spent the morning visiting various Irish Language enterprises and took part in a radio interview on Forbairt Feirste’s fortnightly broadcast on local Irish Language radio station Raidió Fáilte.
“It was wonderful to see Irish in use on street signs and on the businesses and to hear it spoken naturally by local people,” said Annie, a student at St John’s University in Chicago where she is undertaking Irish Studies.
