Rinne Forbairt Feirste óstadh lae Déardaoin an 30/09/10 ar thoscaireacht polaitiúl Ó Mhassachusetts Stáit Aontaithe Mheirceá, a bhí ar chuairt chuig Béal Feirste agus iad le freastál ar chluiche haca oighir idir  Fhathaigh Bhéal Feirste agus Bruins Bhostúin an tSatharn beag seo 1/10/10.


Ar an toscaireacht -  a chaith lá sa Cheathrú Ghaeltachta ag bailiú eolais faoi tionscadail Ghaeilge – bhí, an tUas Eugene L. O’Flaherty, Ionadaí Stáit agus Cathaoirleach na BreithúnaS http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/elo1.htm ; an tUas  Charles Murphy, Ionadaí Stáit, agus Cathaoirleach ar Coiste Airgeadais na Dála http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/cam1.htm ; an tUas Martin J. Walsh, Ionadaí Stáit http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/mjw1.htm ; an tUas Sean T. O’Donovan Comhairleoir Cathrach ó  Somerville agus an dlíodóir John F. Donovan.


Thosaigh an toscaireacht leis an chuairt lae nuair a thainig siad chuig oifigí Forbairt Feirste ag an Nasc le eolas a fháil ar an dul chun cinn atá a dhéanamh maidir leis an Cheathrú Ghaeltachta agus le eolas a fháil ar chúrsa i dTreo na Fostaíochta. Pléadh na féidirtheachtaí a bhí ann maidir le hintéirneachtaí do dhaltaí atá ag freastál ar Chúrsa Fhorbairt agus gheall an dá thaobh go leanfadh siad le fiosriúcháin fá dtaobh de seo amach anseo.


I ndiaidh lóin thug an toscaireacht aghaidh ar Choláiste Feirste, áit a raibh deis acu camchuairt a dhéanamh ar an scoil agus bualadh le muinteoirí agus daltaí araon. Bhuail siad isteach ar an Cumann Gaelach nua-bhunaithe a bhí ag déanamh ullmhúcháin don chéad mórimeacht  a bhí le reachtáil acu an oíche sin.  Bhí deis ag an toscaireacht fosta bualadh le foireann agus daltaí Ionad Foghlamtha an Choláiste, atá ag déanamh obair ceannródaíoch le daltaí a bhfuil sainriachtanais ar leith acu.


San iarnóin d’eascaigh Forbairt cruinniú idir an toscaireacht agus ionadaithe ó na mórghrúpaí éagsúla Gaeilge atá lonnaithe i mBéal Feirste agus bhí deis ag na ceannairí Gaeilge cur i láthair a dhéanamh ar a gcuid oibre agus ar na mórdhushláinn atá roimh Pobal na Gaeilge, dar leo.


Ag labhairt dó an oíche sin 30/09/10, ag failtiú de chuid Grupa Meán Bhéal Feirste, le ceannairí pobal i gCultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, mhol an tUas Charles Murphy a raibh feicthe acú i rith an lae agus gheall sé go mbeadh siad ag ardú roinnt saincheisteanna maidir a thainig aníos le linn an lae agus iad ar ais sna Stáit Aontaithe.

Forbairt Feirste were hosts for the day on Thursday 30/09/10 to a delegation of  American politicians from the State of Massachusetts, who were visiting Belfast to attend the Belfast Giants and Boston Bruins Ice Hockey game of Saturday 1/10/10.


The delegation, which spent the day in Belfast’s Gaeltacht Quarter visiting Irish Language projects comprised the Hon Eugene L. O’Flaherty, State Representative and chair of Judiciary http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/elo1.htm ; Hon Charles Murphy, State Representative and Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/cam1.htm ; Hon Martin J. Walsh State Representative http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/mjw1.htm ; Hon Sean T. O’Donovan Alderman for the City of  Somerville and attorney John F. Donovan.


The delegation began their day in Belfast’s Gaeltacht Quarter by dropping in on Forbairt Feirste’s An Nasc offices on a fact-finding visit to assess progress on the development of the Gaeltacht Quarter and to gather information on Forbairt’s  ‘i dTreo na Fostaíochta/Towards Employment Course’. Discussions were had on the feasiblity of establishing internships for students enrolled on the Forbairt Course, both sides agreed to follow-up in the immediate future on moving forward with the internship proposa.


Following lunch the delegation headed for Colaiste Feirste where they had the opportunity to tour what is the second biggest second level Irish Medium College on the Island of Ireland and to meet with staff and students. The delegation also paid a visit to students who were preparing for that evening’s launch of the College’s newly established Irish Language Society. The delegation also met with staff and pupils at the college’s pioneering Learning Support Centre which works with students who have a range of additional learning requirements.


In the afternoon Forbairt facilitated a meeting between the delegation and the main Belfast-based Irish Language groups, whose leaders had the opporunity of presenting to the delegation on the full range of challenges and opportunities which current present themselves to the Irish speaking community


Speaking that evening, 30/09/10, at a Belfast Media Group Sponsored reception with community leaders held in Belfast’s premier Irish Language Community Centre, Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, Charles Murphy, on behalf of the visiting delegation, praised the work which they had observed and promised that they would, on their return to the United States, raise of a number of specific questions in relation to what they had observed.
