Is cuid lárnach é an tógra seo don obair chumasaithe pobail a bhíonn ar siúl ag Forbairt Feirste i rith na bliana agus tá muid thar a bheith sásta an fhorbairt nualaíoch seo a eascú. Lena chois sin, tá muid buíoch do Foras na Gaeilge as an tógra seo a mhaoiniú agus deis seo a thabhairt don chumann a gcuid tiomantas a chur i bhfriotál don phobal. Tá úinéireacht iomlán ag na daoine óga seo ar an láinseáil agus léiríonn siad chomh cumasach agus atá an chéad ghlúin eile do dhíograiseoirí teangan.’

Another historic occasion will take place this Thursday when the Coláiste Feirste Gaelic Society is launched in the school itself in the heart of the Gaeltacht Quarter. There will be a full Irish day of events provided by the Society under the direction of the 6th and 7th form students in the school. During the day, at approximately 2 o clock, they will be directing a Céilí for the new first years and giving a presentation and school tour to American visitors.  That night in the Main Hall, there will traditional music by pupils, a Grand Céilí, a showcase of Coláiste Feirste talent with a series of singers and dancers before the evening finishes with Irish reggae supergroup, BRÉAG.  Free Food and refreshments will be provided on the night.

Speaking on event, one member of the society Áine Ní Mháicín, said, ‘We aim to promote the language within the school and inspire the pupils about the Irish language. We also aim to show that we, as young Gaels, can be independent and organise ourselves without the direction of teachers.’ Adding to this, Dónall Ó Dochartaigh, who will act as compere on the night, stated, ‘It is our objective to strengthen the Irish language revival in Belfast and open the school to the wider community and attract more people towards the language. It is on this basis that we invite the community to come along on the night, to get a taste of our Irish Society, Coláiste Feirste and the Irish language community in general.’

The Coláiste Feirste head of Key Stage 5, Wayne Pickering, outlined the positive view of the school on this new development, ‘We are very proud of the these inspirational pupils. They are committed to the language and are very confident as young people. We are very pleased to facilitate this type of event in the school and very grateful to Irish language development Agency Forbairt Feirste, who worked with the pupils and the school itself in putting this launch together.’

Forbairt Feirste Project Worker Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh, supported this when he stated, ‘This will be a fantastic event on Thursday night that will add to the development of the Gaeltacht Quarter and the Irish language revival in general. This project is a central aspect of the community empowerment work that Forbairt Feirste carries out throughout the year and we are very pleased to facilitate this innovative new development. In addition, we are very grateful to Foras na Gaeilge for funding this initiative and providing this Society with the opportunity to express their diligence to the community. The young people have complete ownership of the launch and show just how capable the next generation of language activists really are.’
