Tá muid bródúil, agus iontach buíoch gur thug Clann Chormaic agus coiste Champa Chormaic féin an deis dúinn an campa seo a eagrú.

The first ever Campa Chormaic in Antrim got off to a flying start this week when over 100 young Irish speakers arrived at Bunscoil an tSléibhe Dhuibh, Whiterock Rd, Belfast and at the adjacent St John’s GAA club for the start of their exciting Gaelic summer camp.

Campa Chormaic has been organised annually for the past six years in County Tyrone in memory of the famous Tyrone Gael and All-Star Footballer, Cormac Mac Anallen, who died tragically in 2004 of a rare heart condition. The camp is based on Cormac’s biggest passions: the Irish Language, Gaelic Athleticism and our native heritage in general. It is aimed at 9-14 year old boys and girls and offers them the chance to learn more about the Irish culture and language and to participate in football, hurling and camogie.

As one of the Antrim camp organisers, Forbairt Feirste Project Worker, Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh, stated:

“We are delighted to bring this fantastic camp to Belfast for the first time. It combines our native games and Irish language learning together in an innovative way and strengthens the living language outside the school gates. We are very proud, honoured and grateful to be given the opportunity to organise the camp by Cormac’s family and the Campa Chormaic committee.

“We are also very grateful to Bunscoil an tSléibhe Dhuibh and Naomh Eoin CLG for sharing their facilities with us for the week. Irish language and music classes, historical walks, trips and of course football and hurling sessions delivered by stars from the GAA will all be included in the course of the week. “
