Leabhar ar Sráid Bombay lainseáilte / Bombay Street booked launched

Gaeilge

Bhí údar Tuairisc na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta, Clive Dutton ar ais sa Cheathrú Déardaoin seo caite, 4ú Samhain leis  an leabhair Ón Luaith go dtí an Aisling – Ról Ghaeile Feirste in atógáil Sráíd Bombay a lainseáil.

Bhí an t-uasal Dutton, Stiúrthóir Athghiniúna Pleanála agus Sealuchais Bardas Newham, Londan, i láthair ag Coláiste Feirste, áit a lainseáladh cóip crua den Leabhair ón Luaith go dtí an Aisling le caibidil breise le Sean MacSeáin, an fear a rinne an  atógáil a stiúradh.

Dúirt an t-uasal Dutton, agus é ag labhairt i Leabharlann ornáideach Choláiste Feirste, gur mór an ónóir a bhí ann dó an leabhar a chuir i láthair: “An pobal seo atá in eiseamláir do lucht athghiniúna ar fud an domhain.”

Léigh sé roinnt sliochtaí éagsúla, a roghnaigh sé as an leabhar féin a rá: “Is i bhfocail na gceannródaíthe seo féin a rinne éacht i Sráid Bombay, a bhfuil ceacht le foghlaim ag aon duine nó aon phobal atá ag iarraidh dul i mbun atógáil nó athghiniúint. Molaim go hard iad agus molaim an leabhar seo daoibh go léir.”

Le críoch a chur le hoíche an-sultmhar dá raibh i láthair, léigh Sean MacSeain píosaí ó lámhleabhar agus dialann a choinnigh sé féin le linn an ama chorraithigh sin.

Cuireadh an cóip crua úr den leabhair i gcló ag Forbairt Feirste le cúnamh airgid ón Comhairle um Caidreamh Phobail, agus tá méíd áirithe de na leabhair ar díol don phobal sa Cheathrú Póilí i gCultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich.

The author of the official report into the development of the Gaeltacht Quarter, Clive Dutton was back in Belfast’s Gaelic heart on Thursday last, November 4th to launch the book From Ashes to Aisling – Belfast Gaels and the Rebuilding of Bombay Street.

Mr Dutton, the director of Regeneration, Planning and Property at Newham Council London, was in attendance in Coláiste Feirste, where the hard back version of the book, with additional material from Sean MacSeain, the man who oversaw the rebuilding, was officially launched.

Speaking in Coláiste Feirste’s ornate Library Clive Dutton, said that it was an honour for him to have been asked to officially launch the book in the presence of: “This community which is an exemplar for those engaged in community regeneration throughout the world.”

He proceeded to read selections that he had made from the book saying: ” It is in the words of these pioneers themselves, who achieved an amazing feat in Bombay Street, that we find lessons for anyone or any community which is concerned with or embarking upon regeneration. I cannot praise them highly enough and I thoroughly recommend this book to all.”

Rounding off what was a highly enjoyable evening, Sean MacSeain read some extracts from a day book which he himself kept during those turbulent times.

The hard-backed copy of the book was made possible with generous help from the Community Relations Council and a limited number of copies are available for purchase at the bookshop in the Falls Road Cultúrlann.
