The 240 year old doors of Belfast’s oldest house ‘Teach Ard na bhFeá – Beechmount House’ will be opened to welcome in the public next month on Saturday September 14th as part of the European Heritage Open Days.  The Heritage Open Days are an initiative of the NIEA and for the first year Forbairt Feirste are taking part to open their Beechmount Heritage cultural initiative to as wide an audience as possible.

There will be plenty to entertain and delight visitors on the day with storytelling and face-painting for children and young people, a guided tour of the historical house, dramatic re-enactments by Coláiste Feirste’s drama department, art exhibitions and an exhibition and talk on the house and its history by local historian Brighid Mhic Sheáin.

Speaking at the launch of the Heritage Open Day  Forbairt Feirste chair Seán Mistéil said:

“Unlocking the potential of the Beechmount site for the benefit of the Irish Speaking community and the wider community and doing so in ways which underpin our work in the Gaeltacht Quarter has been the focus of our work for some considerable time. We are very excited by the role the Oidhreacht Ard na b hFeá – Beechmount Heritage initiative can play in helping to realise and underscore our city wide mission.  Come along and join us and keep watching this space.”

All events on the day are kindly supported by the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure
