Forbairt Feirste was promoting community education last night in Ardoyne’s Shamrock Bar, where Project Worker Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh, gave a lecture on the history and revival of the Irish language as part of the 2010 Ardoyne Fleádh. These lectures are part of  Forbairt Feirste’s community empowerment strategy where they work closely with Irish language community groups who are active working locally on the ground.  It was Glór an Tuaiscirt who organised last night’s lecture which was followed by a traditional music session with Aibhléis Music band.

Referring to the event, Feargal stated, ‘We are greatly honoured to be working with and supporting Glór an Tuaiscirt and their educational projects during the Ardoyne Fleádh, which is one of the prominent community festivals in the country. We understand the importance of education in empowering activists in the direction of the revival and we would like to congratulate Glór an Tuaiscirt, espeically the young people under their stewardship who came to take an active part in the talk and discussion afterwards.’

Speaking on this events,  Glór an Tuaiscirt chair Conor Ó Siobhaird said, ‘Feargal’s lecture was greatly enjoyed by those present and we are very grateful to him for taking part. At the minute, we are working with a group of very committed young people on a local history project on the Irish language revival in Ardoyne. We got funding through the Heritage Lottery Fund to direct and train a group of young people to conduct a number of interviews and research with a view to completing a DVD and booklet by the end of the year. Last night’s event was a great help for this innovative project. ‘
