Gaeilge

Tá Áisíneacht Forbartha na Ceathrún Gaeltachta, Forbairt Feirste i ndiaidh litir oscailte a sheoladh chuig an Tánasite Simon Coveney TD, Stát Rúnaí Breataine, Karen Bradley MP agus ceannairí na bPáirtithe áitiúla chun toiscaireacht aimsithe fíricí a thabhairt chun na Ceathrún Ghaletachta. Ina litir do na páirtithe uilig atá i mbun cainte. dúirt Cathaoirleach Forbairt Feirste, Pilib Ó Ruanaidh gur “chóir go raibh réiteach ceist cearta Ghaeilgeoirí bunaithe ar thuiscint soiléir faoi na deacrachtaí atá ag saoránaigh a roghnaíonn an Ghaeilge mar phríomhtheanga, oideachais, oibre, teaghlaigh agus phoiblí.  Tá téacs na litreach thíos:

“Tá muid uilig meabhrach ar na deacrachtaí atá romhainn agus sinn ag iarraidh teacht ar shocruithe inbhuanaithe a thugann meas agus a chinntíonn cearta an phobail trí chéile don todhchaí. Tá dúshláin agus féidearthachtaí sóléire sna seachtainí beaga amach romhainn má táthar dul chun cinn a chinntiú.

Tá stádas na Gaeilge agus cearta Ghaeilgeoirí i measc na bpríomh fhocas sna cainteanna reatha agus cé go ndearnadh a lán cainte ar an ábhar seo tá gan dabht a lán mithuisiceanna and in amanna bréageolas faoi na cúrsaí seo.

Creideann Forbairt Feirste, Áisíneacht Forbartha na Ceathrún Gaeltachta gur chóir deiseanna a thapadh chun comhthuiscint agus dea-thoil a thógáil agus mar sin de, ba mhaith linn cuireadh a thabhairt do Simon Coveney TD agus Karen Bradley MP toscaireacht aimsithe fíricí a shocrú chun cuairt a thabhairt ar an Cheathrú Ghaeltachta, ar cuireadh Forbairt Feirste. Tá dhá chúis leis an chuireadh i dtosach chun deis a thabhairt do na príomhpháirtithe leasmhara feiceáil cuid den obair atá ar bun agus chun ligint dúinn plé ionraic oscailte a dhéanamh ar na dóigheanna a dtig linn ár gcomhaidhm a chomhlíonadh sa dóigh is nach mbíonn aon áiteacha fuara i sochaí s’againne.

Fáiltímid go mór go bhfuil achán páirtí leasmhar, gan éisceacht, i ndiadh cur in iúl gur mian leo tabhairt faoi cheist cearta Ghaeilgeoirí agus iad a réiteach. I bhfírinne chuir trí cheann de na príomhpháirtithe in iúl dúinn ag cruinnithe agus go poiblí go bhfuil siad tiomanta chun reachtaíocht a fheiceáil a thugann cosaint do chearta Ghaeilgeoirí. Ba chóir go raibh réiteach na gceisteanna seo bunaithe ar thuiscint soiléir faoi na deacrachtaí atá ag saoránaigh a roghnaíonn an Ghaeilge mar phríomhtheanga, oideachais, oibre, teaghlaigh agus phoiblí.”

Forbairt Feirste, the Gaeltacht Quarter Development Agency has today January 31st issued an open letter to Tánaiste Simon Coveney TD, British Secretary of State, Karen Bradley MP and the leaders of the local Political Parties to organise as a matter of urgency a fact finding delegation to Belfast’s Gaeltacht.  In his open letter to all the main parties to the current Stormont talks, Forbairt Feirste chair, Pilib Ó Ruanaidh said: “How the issue of Irish Language speakers’ rights are addressed should be clearly informed by a sound knowledge of the everyday issues facing those whose first choice of language, in education, business, home life and public life, is Irish.” Below we reproduce the text of Mr O Ruanaidh’s letter.

“All of us are cognisant of the difficulties we face in finding and negotiating sustainable arrangements which respect the rights and ensure the future of our entire community. There are clear challenges but also clear opportunities in the few short weeks ahead to ensure progress.

The status of the Irish Language and the rights of Irish speakers are among the key areas of focus in the current talks and whilst a lot has been said on the subject there is doubtless a lot of misunderstanding and at times downright misinformation on these issues.

Forbairt Feirste, the Gaeltacht Quarter Development Agency believe in taking opportunities for building goodwill and mutual understanding and would therefore like to invite Karen Bradley MP and Simon Coveney TD to organise a fact-finding delegation to visit the Gaeltacht Quarter at our invitation. The purpose of the visit would be to both acquaint the main talks participants with some of the work that is ongoing in the Gaeltacht Quarter and to allow for us to engage in a positive exchange of views on what we can do to fulfil our mutual aim of ensuring there are no cold places in our society.

We greatly welcome the fact that all of the talks participants without exception have indicated a desire to see the issue of rights for Irish Speakers addressed and resolved. Indeed three of the main parties have in private meetings with us and in public committed to ensuring the enactment legislation protecting the rights of Irish speakers. How these issues are addressed should be clearly informed by a sound knowledge of the everyday issues facing those whose first choice of language, in education, business, home life and public life, is Irish.

We issue this invitation with a sense of urgency and sincerely hope that our invitation is taken seriously and is availed off. We look forward to hearing from you at your very earliest convenience.
