Bunús Ghluaiseacht na Gaeilge: ‘ná habar é déan é’

The basis of the Gaelic movement: ‘Don’t say it Do it”

Gaeilge Leis na focail sin ‘Na habar é déan é’ a chur Gerry Adams TD deireadh lena oráid ag Cothaigh 2017. Dúirt sé leis an scaifte de Ghaeil óga agus níos aosta, a phlodaigh isteach i gCultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich Dé Sathairn Nollaig 2ú, gur iontach an méid a bhí bainte amach aineoinn cur in éadan ón bhunaíocht.

Ar an scaifte a bhí i láthair bhí scairchealbhóirí éagsúla na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta, mar aon le príomhaoíeanna, Máire agus Seán MacSeáin, bunaitheoirí Ghaeltacht Seoighe, Sean Mac Goill, Ailtire Bhóthar Seoighe, Gearóid MacCumhaill, bunaitheoir Taca agus a bhean Fiona Ní Dhoibhlin, Brian Watson ó Aisíneacht Forbartha na Seanchille, An tOllamh Peter Finn, Uachtáran Coláíste Ollscoile Muire agus a bhean Bronagh, Eoghan Ó Néill agus Edel Ní Churainn ó Raidió Fáílte, Ciarán MacGiolla Bhéin ó Ghlór na Móna, Aisling Ní Labhraí, Stiúrthóir Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, Fionntán MagAoidh ó Roinn an Phobal agus a bhean an léachtóir Éibhlín Ní Tuathail, Paul Devine ó Woodvale Construction, atá ag obair ar tionscadal Ard na bhFeá agus an Ceoltóir Maighréad Uí Mhaonaigh a rinne cúpla port a sheinm in éineacht le clann Uí Mhaonaigh ar an oíche.

Sular thosaigh an Teachta Dála Adams a chuid chainte táispeánadh Físean Glas le Fás, a thug ionspioráid don scaifte arna fheiceáil an dul chun cinn iontach atá déanta ag forbairt Spórtlann na hÉireann ar shuíomh Choláiste Feirste in Ard na bhFeá.

Ina intreoir ag cur an tUasal Adams i láthair an tslua dúirt Cathaoirleach Forbarit Feirste Pilib Ó Ruanaí gur mian leis tréaslú le moladh Chathaoirleach Na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta go mbunófar ‘Ciste forbartha na Ceathríún Ghaeltachta’. Dúirt Ó Ruanaí: “ Ba mhaith liom aoi chainteoir na hoíche anocht a chur i bhur láthair.

“Táimid sona sásta gur thoiligh sé teacht anseo agus a thuairimí a roinnt linn anocht, nó is cara na Gaeilge é le fada an lá. Rinne sé cinnte gur cuireadh san aireamh ceist na Gaeilge le linn idirbheartaíochtaí polaitiúla thar na blianta agus thug sé éisteacht do na grúpaí Gaeilge  nuair a bhí ceist ínteacht ag dó na geirbe orainn. Agus ar ndóigh, is de bharr abhcóideacht Gerry Adams a d’éirigh linn an t-airgead do Chiste Infheistíochta Gaeilge a fháil – atá i ndiaidh difear mór a dhéanamh ar bhonneagar na Gaeilge ar fud an tuaiscirt. Ach os a choinne sin, is duine é a labhrann Gaeilge ag gach ócáid gur féidir leis agus tá infheistíocht phearsanta aige sa Ghaelscolaíocht i mBéal Feirste. Is duine é a dhéanann beart de réir briathair.”

Bhí an tUasal Adams ag Cothaigh 2017 le cáipéis stratéise úr Forbairt Feirste a lainseáil. Agus é ag seoladh an cáipéís Glas le Fás dúirt an tUasal Adams: “ Is ónóir mhór dom labhairt libh agus sibh ag seoladh ‘Glas le Fás’, an straitéis do thodhchaí na Ceathrún Gaeltachta. Buíochas mór do Jake Mac Siacais agus Forbairt Feirste as an chuireadh agus buíochas mór libhse as teacht. Tá sé iontach scaifte chomh spreagúil, fuinniúil a fheiceáil agus tá sé soiléir go bhfuil an fuinneamh seo le feiceáil i muintir na Gaeilge ar fud na cathrach.”

Is é cuspóir Glas le Fás ná béim a chur ar dhearfacht chúrsaí, gach duine a spreagadh chun níos mo iarrachtaí a dhéanamh, leas a bhaint as taithí agus dícheall uile cheannródaithe Gaeilge Bhéal Feirste thar 50 bliain anuas leis na dúshraitheanna daingne a bhunaigh bunaitheoirí Ghaeltacht Bhóthar Seoighe agus iad siúd a tháinig ina ndiaidh a fhorbairt, agus le tuilleadh nuálaíochta agus smaointe cinniúnacha a spreagadh a bheidh ár gcur chun cinn sna 50 bliain atá le teacht agus ina dhiaidh sin.

English  It was with the above words ‘Don’t say it do it’, that Gerry Adams TD for County Louth, brought his Gaeltacht Quarter Lecture Address 2017 to a close. He told the crowd of young and not so young Gaelic language activists who packed out Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich on Saturday December 2nd that their achievements, in spite of establishment opposition, were truly inspirational.

Among those present were a wide range of key stakeholders in the Gaeltacht Quarter who joined special guests Máire agus Seán MacSeáin, founders of Ghaeltacht Seoighe, the Shaws Road Architect, Sean Mackel, Gearóid MacCumhaill, the veteran fundraiser for Irish Medium schools and his wife Fiona Devlin , Brian Watson from the Lower Shankill Development Association, Professor Peter Finn, President of Coláíste Ollscoile Muire and his wife Bronagh, Eoghan Ó Néill and Edel Ní Churrainn from Raidió Fáílte, Ciarán MacGiolla Bhéin from Ghlór na Móna, Aisling Ní Labhraí, director of Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, Fionntán MagAoidh from the Department of Communities and his wife the lecturer Éibhlín Ní Tuatháil, Paul Devine of Woodvale Construction and the musician Maighréad Uí Mhaonaighwho delighted those present with a few musical renditions performed with clann Uí Mhaonaigh on the night.

Before the Sinn Féin TD’s address to Cothaigh, the Annual Gaeltacht Quarter Lecture, commenced those gathered were inspired by a short video Glas le Fás – Green with growth which charted the development to date of the £17.5m Spórtlann na hÉireann, situated at Coláíste Feirste on the old Beechmount Leisure centre site.

In his speech introducing Gerry Adams Forbairt Feirste Chair Pilib Ó Ruanaí, endorsed Gaeltacht Quarter Chair Ciarán Mackel’s call for the establishment of a Gaeltacht Quarter Development fund. He continued: “ Cothaigh has been a special event over the years. It has been and is an unfussy informal event for the Irish language community in Belfast to come together and reflect on the progress of the language. It has been really good in reaching out outside of our constituency and hearing different worldviews and what they make of the Gaeltacht Quarter.

“The Gaeltacht Quarter is, of course, this physical space – this amazing building, an Chultúrlann, Ionad Uíbh Eachach and Gaelscoil na bhFál, an Nasc, the Raidió Fáilte building which is rising up from its foundations and now Spórtlann na hÉireann and Coláiste Feirste, which are transformational changes in this area.

“I would like all of the individuals and groups involved in the Gaeltacht Quarter board to renew their commitment to the concept and work together with a shared purpose in a spirit of comradeship and mutual respect to build the supports needed to make this language revival sustainable and to build the critical mass necessary to make that happen.”

In his opening remarks Gerry Adams TD said: ” It is an honour for me to be addressing you all and to be launching Glas le Fás the strategy for the future of theGaeltacht Quarter. I am thankful to Jake Mac Siacais and Forbairt Feirste for the invitation and thankful to you all for being here tonight. It is wonderful to see such an inspirational and energetic gathering and it is abundantly clear that the same energy permeats the Irish speaking community throughout Belfast.”

Glas Le Fás seeks to accentuate the positive and inspire all to greater efforts, drawing on the well-spring of experience and endeavour of Belfast’s Irish Language pioneers over the last 50 years, to both build on the solid foundations laid by the Shaws Road Gaeltacht founders and those who followed them and to inspire further innovation, encouraging leaps of imagination which will carry us forward for the next 50 years and beyond.
