Tugadh céim eile chun tosaigh i bhforbairt Slí na Gaeltachta inné nuair a thainig príomhpháirtnéirí forbartha an rian oidhreachta agus cultúrtha le chéile le hoifigigh Comhairle Bhéal Feirste chun suíomhanna féideartha a aithint do 29 suiteáil ealaíona a aithriseoidh scéal na Gaeilge sa chathair do thurasóirí agus saoranaigh na cathrach araon.

Is tosaíocht de chuid Forbairt Feirste, Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, Fáilte Feirste Thiar agus rannóg ealaíona Iontaobhas Chluanaí, í Slí na Gaeltachta atá chun solais a chaitheamh ar scéal iontach na Gaeilge i mBéal Feirste ó lár a bhaile trí dhá mhíle de Bhóthar na bhFál.

Táthar an moladh don rian oidhreachta cultúrtha a fhorbairt trí Chiste Infheistíochta Áitiúl Chomhairle Bhéal Feirste agus Comhairle na nEalaíon.

Mhínigh Jake MacSiacais, stiúrthóir Forbairt Feirste, cuid de chúlra na tosaíochta seo:

“Bhí roinnt eagraíochta, muid féin ina measc, tiománta chun rian oidhreachta chultúrtha a fhorbairt don taobh seo Cathrach agus nuair a thainig ann don Chiste Infheistíochta Aítiula aithníodh deis chun na smaointí éagsúla seo a dhluthú le chéile chun cur leis an chomhoibriú agus chun cur leis an deis a bhí ann chun na smaointí éagsúla seo a thabhairt chun forbartha. Bhí áthas orainn ag Forbairt Feirste an deis seo a thapadh agus chun eolas s’againn-ne ar stair na Gaeilge a sníomh fríd an rian oidhreachta molta, ar bhealaí a rinne deiseanna a uasmhéadú agus ar bhealaí a chur bonn níos daingne fós faoi na deiseanna forbartha áitiúla.

“Bunaíodh pairtnéireacht ag tús na bliana seo idir na príomheagraíochtaí ábhartha agus cuireadh moladh chun tosaigh. Is cúis mór áthais dúinn-ne uilig go raibh oifigigh Chomhairle Bhéal Feirste sásta a gcuid saineolas a roinnt linn agus muid ag iarraidh an moladh a fhorbairt ar bhealaí nach dtiocfadh salach ar rialachais éagsúla maidir le scéimeann san fherann phoiblí.

“Tá súil againn an rian oidhreachta seo a lainseáil mar chuid de comóradh Bhliain na Gaeilge 2013 agus sin a dhéanamh le linn chomóradh Féile 25 i mí Lúnasa.”

Another significant step forward was taken yesterday 27/11/12 when the main partners in the development of the new Slí na Gaeltachta heritage and culture trail joined officers of Belfast City Council in a walkabout to help identify possible sites for the erection of art markers for a proposed trail which will follow the journey of the Irish Language in Belfast..

Slí na Gaeltachta is an initiative by Forbairt Feirste, Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich, Fáilte Feirste Thiar and the Public Art Unit of the Upper Springfield Trust, which seeks to illuminate the intriguing journey of the Irish Language in Belfast from the City Centre along a two mile stretch of the Falls Road.

The proposal for the Heritage and Cultural Trail is being developed in the context of the City Council’s Local Area Investment Fund we assistance also being sought from the Arts Council.

Forbairt Feirste director, Jake MacSiacais, explained some of the background to the initiative:

“A number of organisations, including our own, had for some time sought to develop various art and heritage trails for this part of the city and with the advent of the Local Investment Fund an opportunity was identified to maximise co-operation and the effectiveness of these various proposals by developing a partnership approach which would increase the opportunity for successfully bringing about our various visions. We in Forbairt Feirste were delighted to bring our knowledge of local history and our expertise to the table and to ensure with the other partners that Slí na Gaeltachta would have the story of Gaelic’s journey woven into the heritage and cultural trail in ways which maximised opportunities and underpinned local development potential.

“A partnership was formed at the start of this year between the relevant local organisations and a proposal for Slí na Gaeltachta was developed. We, the partners have been delighted with the readiness of City Council officers to give us the benefit of their expertise in the progression of proposed Public Realm developments and in helping to avoid the pitfalls of failing to take account of the various regulatory requirements attached to such work.

“We hope to be in a position to launch Slí na Gaeltachta as part of the island-wide celebrations of The Year of the Irish Language 2013, which is set to mark 120 years since the beginning of the great Irish Language and cultural revival and to have the trail operational in time for a launch during the Féile 25 celebrations in August.”
