Is iontach agus sláintiúil an rud é rudaí a bheith idir chamánaibh againn i gcónaí agus leis an saothar ealaíne is déanaí ag Coláiste Feirste is féidir sin a dhéanamh go fisiciúl agus ó thaobh na fealsúnachta de.

Tá 32 camán maisithe le íomhanna ó gach chondae in Éirinn curtha in airde ar balla Spórtlann na hÉireann. Saothar daltaí Coláiste Feirste atá ann, iad uilig déanta i gcomhthionscadail le ProGAA, lucht déanta camáin sa Cheathrú Gaeltachta. Rinne Forbairt Feirste an tionscadal seo a éascú agus inné Lá Grianstad an tSamhraidh lainseáil Cathaoirleach na Ceathrún Gaeltachta, Ciarán Mac Goill, an saothar.

Ag labhairt dó ag an oscailt dúirt an tUas MacGoill;

Is maith liom an obair seo, is maith liom simplíocht a smaoineamh agus cumhacht a shamhlaíochta: go bhfuil suim a triocha dó chuid, níos mó de ná na heilimintí aonair.

Agus is maith liom teideal an phíosa. Is spraoi cliste é ar theanga agus ar bhrí. Is deis oscailte é, glao ar phlé agus socrú a dhéanamh ar mhórán saincheisteanna ón áitiúil go náisiúnta. Tagann géilleadh na healaíne seo ón ngá atá le bheith le chéile in áit. Tógann  sé caidreamh le daoine eile; léiríonn sé brí an spás cruthaitheach seo. Agus ceiliúrann sé pobal

Tá áthas orm fosta go bhfuil an obair seo suite  san fhoirgneamh, Bhí sé mar aidhm againn go mbeadh an foirgneamh seo mar chreatlach a mbeadh pobal beo ann. Níl sna spásanna agus sna ballaí anseo ach frámaí le húsáid i cibé bealaí samhlaíocha agus cumasacha is féidir.

It is wonderful and it is healthy to continual keep ideas and concepts under discussion and with the latest artwork at Coláiste Feirste we can do that both physically and metaphorically because the artwork entitled Idir Chamánaibh meaning literally between hurls also has the meaning of engaging in robust debate.

The 32 decorated hurls, with images from every county in Ireland, which have been erected on the wall of Spórtlann na hÉireann are the result of a joint project between the College and local Gaeltacht Quarter hurl manufacturer ProGAA. Forbairt Feirste were delighted to have been the originators and facilitators of this project.

Speaking yesterday, at midday on the Summer Solstice, Gaeltacht Quarter chair, Ciarán Mac Goill said:

“I like this work, I like the simplicity of its idea and the power of its imagery: that the sum of its 32 parts is more than the individual elements.

“And I like the title of the piece. It’s a clever play on language and on meaning.  It’s an open opportunity, a call to discussion and a setting out of many issues from the local to the national.  The genesis of this art comes from the need to be together in a place.  It frames a relationship with others; it elaborates this place. And celebrates community.

 ”I am pleased too that this work is sited on this building and in this space which we intended as a framework that should be inhabited and peopled.  The space and walls here are only frames to be used in whatever imaginative and inventive ways are possible.
