Bhí baill de Chomhchoiste Títhe an Oireachtais um Cur i bhFeidhm Comhaontú Aoine an Chéasta ar chuairt tráthnóna inniu 21/2/18 chuig Gaeltacht Bhéal Feirste, áit ar bhuail siad le áisíneacht Forbartha na Ceathrún Gaeltachta, Forbairt Feirste agus le daltaí agus múinteoirí Choláiste Feirste.

Bhí Baill Parlaiminte Westminster, Paul Maskey, Elisha McCallion agus Michelle Gildernew in éineacht leis an toscaireacht a chuala stiúrthóir Forbairt Feirste, Jake MacSiacais ag impigh orthu tionchar a imirt ar an Tanáiste Simon Coveney agus Stát Rúnaí na Breataine Karen Bradley toscaireacht aimsiú fíricí a shocrú go práinneach chuig an Cheathrú Ghaeltachta.

Thagair MacSiacais don litir a bhí scríofa chuig ionadaithe an dá rialtas ar an 31ú Eanáir ag Cathaoirleach Forbairt Feirste, Pilib Ó Ruanaidh. D’iarr sé ar bhaill an Chomhchoiste agus ar na Baill Parlaiminte brú a chur ar an dá rialtais le teacht amach agus tuiscint níos soléire a fháil ar na deachrachtaí atá ag daoine a roghnaíonn an Ghaeilge mar príomhtheanga gnó, oideachais agus teaghlaigh.

A delegation of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement were on a visit today 21/2/18 to Belfast’s Gaeltacht where they met with the Gaeltacht Development Agency, Forbairt Feirste as well as with senior pupils and teachers at Coláiste Feirste.

The delegation which was joined by Westminster MPs Paul Maskey, Elisha McCallion and Michelle Gildernew heard Forbairt Director, Jake MacSiacais appeal to them to use their influence to have Tanáiste Simon Coveney and British Secretary of State, Karen Bradley organise a fact-finding delegation to visit the Belfast Gaeltacht.

MacSiacais referenced a letter written by Forbairt Chair, Pilib Ó Ruanaidh to representatives of both governments and all the local parties on January 31st. He asked members of the Joint Committee  and the MPs to lobby both governments to have a delegation visit the Gaeltacht to allow for a clearer understanding of the difficulties which face those who chose Irish as their Business, Educational or family Language.
