Déanfar ceiliúradh ar céad fiche bliain d’athbheochan na Gaeilge i mBéal Feirste amarach Dé Chéadaoin 19ú nuair a théann scaifte Gaeil chuig uaigh an Chéad Chathaoirleach de gníomhaithe Ghaeilge Bhéal Feirste, An Dr John St Clair Boyd.


Ba mhór ag Forbairt Feirste tú a bheith i láthair ag geataí Reilig na Cathrach, Bóthar na bhFál ar 2.00in ar an toirt amarach nuair a dhéanfar siúlóid ghairid go huaigh an Dr John St Clair Boyd. Beidh comóradh cois na huaighe ar chéad fiche bliain ón chéad chruinniú de dhíograiseoirí Gaeilge a reáchtáladh i dteach Cú Uladh, Peadar Toner MacFhionnlaoch, ar Bhóthar Beersbridge ar 19ú Lunása 1895.


Bhí An Dr John St Clair Boyd ar an Chéad Chathaoirleach de Chonradh na Gaeilge Bhéal Feirste. Rugadh John St Clair Boyd i dTeach Chúl Trá, Ard Mhic Nasca ar 9ú Nollaig 1858. Fuair sé bás ar 10ú Iúil 1918. Mac é Le John Kane Boyd, a bhí ina chomhúinéir ar Mhuileann Abhann Bhearrach, Bhóthar Chluanaí.

There will be a celebration of 120 years of the Gaelic revival in Belfast tomorrow Wednesday 19th when a group of Irish language activists gather at the graveside of the first chairperson of the Irish revivalists in the city, Dr John St Clair Boyd. The ceremony to mark the 120th anniversary of Boyd’s election will take place at Belfast City Cemetery.


Forbairt Feirste would be delighted if you could join them tomorrow Wednesday 19th at 2.00pm sharp at the gates of Belfast City Cemetery, Falls Road where a short walk will take place to Boyd’s grave. There will be a short graveside ceremony to mark the occasion 120 years on from the first meeting of Gaelic revivalists held in the house of Cú Uladh, Peadar Toner McGinley, Beersbridge


Dr John St Clair Boyd was the first Chairperson of the Belfast Gaelic League. John St Clair Boyd was born in Cultra House, Holywood on the 9th December 1858. He died on 10th July 1918. He was the son of John Kane Boyd, co-owner of the Blackstaff Mill, Springfield Road.
