In 1971 bhunaigh grúpa de theaghlaigh ar Bhóthar Seoighe an chéad bhunscoil i mBéal Feirste. Thug ceannasaíochta s’acu smaointí úra chun cinn agus thug siad misneach de ghlún úr de cheannairí – cuid mhaith acu nach raibh an Ghaeilge acu féin ach a bhí togtha go mór leis an fhéidearthacht go dtiocfadh lena gcuid páistí féin bheith a oiliúint fríd an Ghaeilge.
In 1971 a group of Irish speaking families on the Shaws Road formed the first Irish medium school in Belfast. Their leadership brought new ideas and new thinking and emboldened a new generation of leaders – many of whom were not Irish speakers but who were inspired to believe that their children could also learn through the medium of Irish.

Cothaigh 2015 Ar Aghaidh Linn – Ever Onwards

Clive Dutton agus Kelly Wu ar chuairt chuig an Cheathrú Gaeltachta 2008

Beidh Gaeil Feirste cruinnithe le chéile anocht do cheann de bhuaic-phointí na bliana ag dinneár agus léacht Cothaigh. I mí Meitheamh na bliana seo cháill an Chethrú Ghaeltachta ceann dá buanchairde, nuair a cháill Clive Dutton, údar Mórphleán na Ceathrún Ghaeltachta, a throid in éadan an Áilse. Caillteánas mór a bhí ann dúinn-ne ach bhí sé ina bhuille i bhfád ní ba throime ar a theaghlach é.
Belfast Gaels will gather tonight at one of the years best events as Forbairt Feirste host their annual Cothaigh, Gaeltacht Quarter Lecture and Dinner.

In June this year the Gaeltacht Quarter was robbed of stalwart champion Clive Dutton, author of the Big Gaeltacht Quarter Plan, who finally lost his battle with cancer. It was a huge loss to us all and deeply felt by those who had come to know him as a true friend. It was an even heavier blow for his family, none more so than his wife Kelly Wu.
