Comórtas úr atá anseo in ómos don dliodóir iomráiteach agus iarchathaoirleach ar Bhord Aontroma, Oilibheár Ó Ceallaigh a d’éag go tragóideach anuraidh. Laochra Loch Lao a eagraíonn an comórtas agus tá stadas oifigiúil aige mar chomórtas Cumann Luthchléas Gaeil de chuid Bord Deisceart Aontroma.


Ag labhairt dó ar fís an chomórtais féin, dúirt Diarmuid Ó Ceallaigh, mac l’Olibhear agus imreoir de chuid na Laochra:


“Is é an comhoidhreacht a d’fhág m’athair againn ná an grá don teanga agus an grá don spóirt Ghaelach. Tá lúchair mhór gur eagraíodh an Corn bhliantiúil seo  atá tiomnaithe i ndílchuimhne air. Ba mhaith le clann s’againn-ne,  buíochas a ghabháil do Laochra Loch Lao CLG as an ónóir seo a bhronnadh orainn. Seasann Laochra Loch Lao d’achan luach ar chóir do Ghaeil na tíre seo a bheith ag iarraidh a bhaint amach agus mar sin de tá sé breá feiliúnach go neagaraíonn na Laochra  an comórtas seo.”


Ag cur leis seo , dúirt Paddy McElvenny, Rúnaí ar Bhord Dheisceart Chontae Aontroma CLG:


“Is ónóir mhór é do Bhord Dheisceart Chontae Aontroma bheith ábalta tacú le Corn Uí Cheallaigh agus le Laochra Loch Lao. Tá muid ag dúil go mór le tógáil air seo bliain i ndiaidh bliana.”


Maidir leis an chomórtas féin, dúirt Cathaoirleach Laochra Loch Lao, Jake Mac Siacais:


“Tá Laochra Loch Lao ar bís go  bhfuilimid ag stiúradh an comórtais seo. D’éirigh go geal leis an chéad chomórtas seo do 2010 agus tá muid thar a bheith brodúil gur bhain muid é agus gur thóg Cathal Ó Ceallaigh an corn féin, thar cheann na Laochra, mar chaptaen na foirne.  Tá buíochas mór tuillte acu siúd a thacaigh leis an comortas go háirithe leis na cumainn a ghlac páirt i mblaina mar a bhí Naomh Úna, Gort na Móna, Laochra Loch Lao agus Cumann Lámh Dhearg CLG. Tá ár mbuíochas fosta tuillte ag Bord Deisceart Aontroma, ag Jim Murray agus Bord Chontae Aontroma, ag  óstaithe na bliana seo, Cumann Lámh Dhearg CLG, agus le hAogán ó Fearghail, Uachtáran Chomhairle Uladh CLG, a bhronn an corn ar an lá.  Tá achan duine sa chumann ag dúil go mór le tógáil ar an  chómórtas iontach seo amach anseo agus tá muid lánchinnte go rachaidh sé ó neart go neart sna blianta atá amach romhainn.”

This new GAA competition was launched in honour of the prominent Belfast solicitor an former Chairperson of the Antrim County Board who died tragically last year. Gaeltacht Quarter Football team, Laochra Loch Lao organises the competition which has gained official status from the South Antrim Board.


Speaking about the competition, Oliver’s son, Diarmuid Ó Cheallaigh, a player with Laochra Loch Lao said:


“Our joint heritage from our father was a passion for the Irish language and for Gaelic games. We are delighted, that this annual challenge cup has been launched which is dedicated to his memory. We also would like to thank Laochra loch Lao CLG for honouring our family in this way. Laochra Loch Lao represent all of those values that true Gaels aspire to and it is more than fitting that they are organising this competition. Also speaking of the tournament,  South Antrim GAA County Board Secretary, Paddy McElvenny said:


“it is a great honour for the South Antrim Board to be in a position to lend our support to Corn Uí Cheallaigh and Laochra Loch Lao. We are really looking forward to building on this in years to come.’


Regarding the competition itself, Laochra Loch Lao CLG chairperson, Jake Mac Siacais said: ‘


“Laochra Loch Lao are overjoyed to organise this competition. This first competiton in 2010 was a huge success and we are very proud to have won it and proud that Cathal Ó Ceallaigh, one of Oliver’s sons lifted the cup on behalf of club as team captain on the day.  We are indebted to all those who supported the tournament espeically the clubs who took part, Saint Agnes’, Lámh Dhearg , Gort na Móna and of Course Laochra Loch Lao CLG. Our thanks are also richly deserved by the South Antrim Board, by Jim Murray and the Antrim County Board, by this year’s hosts, Lámh Dhearg CLG, and by CLG Ulster Council President, Aogán Ó Feargháil. Everyone associated with the club is looking forward to building on this fantastic competiton in the future and we are certain that it will go from strength to stength in years to come.”
