Gaeilge

Thiar in 2008,  mar chuid de thionscadal Fiontraithe le Gaeilge, thug roinnt fiontraí Gaelacha cuairt ar Ollscoil Naomh Gallen san Éilbhéis. Ar fhoireann bainistíochta an tionscadail bhí Jake MacSiacais, Forbairt Feirste, Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, Oideas Gael agus Peadar O Flaharta Fiontar DCU. Rinneadh cuairt ar Cartlann Mainistir Naomh Gall agus tosaíodh ar nascanna a cruthú idir Éirinn agus Naomh Gallen na hÉilbhéise.  B’as an tosaíocht seo a d’fhás tionscadal Oidhreacht Ghaill ‘s Loch Lao de chuid Forbairt Feirste.

I Lúnasa 2008 shocraigh Forbairt Feirste cur i láthair ar an oidhreacht seo a reachtáil i gCultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich. Thainig Maria Hufenus ó Chartlann Naomh Gallen gur thug sí an léacht do halla pacáilte. Rinneadh léacht eile an bliain dár cheann nuair a phill  an tuas Hufenus le léacht a thabhairt in Iarsmalann Náisiúnta Na hÉireann i mBaile Átha Cliath.

‘S’e atá taobh thiar den tionscadal seo ná iarracht chun ardán a cruthú a thabharfas deis dúinn-ne le chéile tógáil ar na nascanna atá déanta agus cinn úra a aithint agus a cruthú chun an Oidhreacht Shaibhir idir an dá áit a athmhuscailt agus a fhorbairt chun sochair pobal uilig an dá áit.

Mar chulrá ar Oidhreacht Ghaill ‘s Loch Lao ní mór chuimhniú ar an mhéid seo leanas:

Thiar in aimsir an Ré Órga lás na manaigh Éireannacha laisir spioradálta a loinnrigh sa dorchadas agus a lás tine beo i gcroíthe pobail éagsúla fud fad na hEorpa. D’fhag na mainigh céanna, as stuaim a ndúthracht agus a n-ealaín, oidhreacht scríofa saibhir, a bhfuil á macalla le cluinstean go soiléir go fóill thar na céadta fada bliain go dtí an lá ata inniú ann.

Déanfaidh Oidhreacht Ghaill ‘s Loch Lao macalla an tsaibhris seo a thréisiú go bhfuaimeoidh sí in ard glór le pobal labhartha na Gaeilge agus leis an phobal ar suim leo an Cultúr Gaelach agus  ar bharr sin díreoidh sé aird mór-phobal Loch Lao ina n-éagsúlacht iomlán, ar an comhoidhreacht luachmhar seo.

In 2008,  as part of  Fiontraithe le Gaeilge, a group of Gaelic entrepreneurs visited the University of Saint Gallen in Switzerland. On the management team of the project were, Jake MacSiacais, Forbairt Feirste, Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, Oideas Gael agus Peadar O Flaharta Fiontar DCU. As part of the study trip  a visit was made to The Saint Gallen Archive and from that links were established between Sankt Gallen in Switzerland and Loch Lao (Belfast/Bangor) in Ireland.  It was from this beginning that the Saint Gall and Loch Lao project grew.

In August 2008 Forbairt Feirste hosted a presentation on the linkages and heritage which was presented by Maria Hufenus of the Saint Gallen Archive. A follow up with Ms Hufenus was organised for the National Museum of Ireland Dublin in 2009.

The impetus behind Forbairt Feirste’s initiave and behind the Saint Gall/Loch Lao project is to construct a platform which provides opportunities to build on the links already established and to identify and grow new links to develop the rich heritage between the two areas and reinvigorate it to the benefit of all the communities in both places.

As background to the project Forbairt Feirste always bears in mind the following:

In the Golden age of Irish Monasticism Irish monks lit a spiritual flame which shone in the darkness and lit a living fire in the hearts of peoples across Europe. Those same monks from their diligence and creativity left a hugely rich written and cultural heritage whose echo still sounds across the ages down until the present day.

The Saint Gall Loch Lao project seeks to reinvigotrate and give new voice to the echo of this rich cultural heritage so that it resounds for the Irish speaking community,  for the community interested in Irish Culture and in ways that redirects the vision and interest of all the peoples of Loch Lao in all their variety on this shared cultural inheritance.
